Kelly Smith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience working with children and families in a variety of settings. Kelly began her career teaching 2nd grade in the Bronx, New York. After 2 years of teaching, she decidedto return to Texas to pursue a career in social work, earning her Master’s of Social Work degree from Texas State University in 2011.
Through Kelly’s training and career as a social worker, she has worked with children and families in an in-patient psychiatric setting, a community pre-school, and a residential substance abuse treatment center. Most recently, Kelly worked with children and families providing school-based individual and group counseling at an elementary school in Austin. Kelly has experience working with children and families who are dealing with issues related to trauma, anxiety, family changes including parental divorce/separation, familial incarceration, grief/loss, social skills, self-esteem, and school-related challenges.
Kelly takes a strengths-based, client-centered approach to therapy and values developing strong therapeutic relationships. Kelly pulls from a blend of therapeutic frameworks using developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed techniques to meet her clients’ individual needs.She strives to create a non-judgmental, nurturing environment where both children and their parents can experience the safety necessary to explore difficult emotions and face challenges, while developing new emotional tools and coping skills to facilitate healing and growth.
