Hello fellow Human,
I am here to tell you a story because stories are what make us human. We tell stories to our families, our friends, to strangers, and to ourselves. We tell stories to entertain, to create a sense of belonging, to inspire, to protect, and to create a sense of understanding and identity. Stories remind us that we matter, that we exist, and that our message is important.
Life can be full of surprises, uncertainty, awe, inspiration, disappointments, joy, failures, falling down, hurt, and love. We tell stories to make sense of it all because sometimes it feels like there is no answer, no purpose, no certainty, and no meaning. That can be a scary thing. Take caution to the stories you tell. Sometimes we are too quick to pick up the pen and write the worst possible story. On the other side, we can tell ourselves stories that lift us, that infuse confidence and courage, that feel authentic, that instill hope and vitality, and can make us feel alive once again. These stories often encompass not just the good but also the bad times because they remind us of our inner resilience and self worth. Stories are powerful and they can define a person’s identity, past, present, and future.
I am here to tell you a story that never changes. It is the story of you and what you are worthy of because you exist in this world. Everyone in this collective human family deserves love and belonging. Everyone is worthy of those two basic things–someone that loves you and somewhere or something where you experience belonging. Your self worth does not change, it has stayed the same since the moment you were born. There will be challenges to this story because of the messages we all receive from society, from family, from loved ones, from broken hearts, from strangers, from trauma, from grief and loss, and from many other life experiences. These messages can challenge us, shake our very being to our core, take hold and power over us, keep us locked in feelings for years as if we are locked in time, and make us question so many things about people, life, and the world.
I want you to know that you matter, your story matters, and your hurts and joys, matter.
Therapy is here to help you navigate wounds, hurts, and pain and understand which messages and stories you have unconsciously or consciously written that negatively impact you, take a hold of you, and don’t let go. Therapy helps you learn how to take back the pen to rewrite a new ending. It takes a little vulnerability and a little out of your comfort zone, but do not fret, it will be at the pace you set and I will walk beside you without judgment and with great compassion.
In the great words of Brene Brown, “We are the authors of our lives, we write our own daring endings, we craft love from heart break, compassion from shame, grace from disappointment, courage from failure, showing up is our power, story is our way home, truth is our song, we are the brave and brokenhearted, we are rising strong”.
